2 killed in separate hit-and-runs

Hit and run scene on Grand.

Two people lose their lives, in two separate hit and runs.

One happened at North Grand and College, close to midnight Wednesday.

A woman was killed while crossing Grand — the driver who hit her sped away. She's been identified as 39-year-old Jameca Stanfield.

Just four hours before that, a man was hit and killed at North Florissant and Sullivan in St. Louis. Moments before he died, he saved someone else's life.

"We don't know how to really feel," Cateena Scott said. She said her family is left with numbness after her brother, Percy Wade, was tragically killed in a hit and run Tuesday night.

"My brother was a person that always did things for his community and all his neighbors," Scott said.

Witnesses say Wade and his niece were walking along this center lane, they were actually walking to this convenience store on North Florissant Road when he was hit the impact threw his body all the way to the other side of the street. The driver fled the scene.

"It looked like it was intentional," Cameron Wilson saw it all unfold. "He was laying like right there where you're standing at, that's exactly where his body was."

WIlson says, just before Wade was fatally hit, he made sure his niece and Scott's daughter was safe and out of harm’s way.

"He was taking her to the store to get some little bags so she could put the candy in so she could sell the little candy at school,” said Scott. "I know he would have done anything to save her and I know he would have done anything to keep me from the heartache."

At this point Scott says she and her family are praying the driver responsible will come forward.

"I hope that you would turn yourself in, that so that we can get some type of closure, I just don't think you know the type of person you took".

Police are asking anyone with information on either of these hit and runs to call CrimeStoppers at 866-371-TIPS.
